This mixed media wearable art mask and headdress set was hand sculpted from premium tooling leather. Everything was entirely hand crafted from start to finish – multiple layers of leather were hand cut and shaped, then painted in shimmering iridescent hues of white, silver, periwinkle and indigo. The color was sealed with a protective top coat before I embellished the leather with hand sewn glass beadwork and wirework.
The beads include an assortment of top quality glass and crystal beads and cabochons, including five 1960’s vintage West German glass cabochons in translucent white opal, Swarovski crystal beads, Czech faceted glass fire polish, dagger beads, duo and O beads, as well as Japanese glass seed beads ranging from tiny size 15/0 beads on up to size 8/0. Last but not least, the beadwork is accented with a large silver toned filigree with a fish motif, and silver toned chain. All of the beadwork is stitched directly through the leather, and the wirework is carefully secured.
The two pieces can be worn separately or together as shown in the photos. The mask alone measures approximately 11″ wide by 5″ high at the highest and widest points; the headdress measures about 16″ wide by 13″ high. Both pieces include gorgeous and durable stretch elastic ties, but the headpiece also features several attachment points on the back side, so that you can secure it with clips or a headband (instead of, or in addition to the aforementioned ties).
