This mixed media pendant necklace features a matte grey picture jasper cabochon with a landscape scene. To me, it looks like a moonlit prairie (see those clumps of sagebrush there?) so I’m calling it “Prairie Nights”. The stone is set in a hand sewn bezel of glass and sterling silver plated beads, and accented with one of my handcrafted leather feathers.
The black feather was crafted by me using top quality tooling leather, and accented with a black wire spiral and a handmade sterling silver feather. I bought the feather in the southwest back in the mid-late 90’s. It’s stamped with a maker’s mark, but it’s small enough that I can’t read anything besides “sterling”.
The pendant hangs from a 30″ leather thong. The last two photos show how it hangs at the shortest and longest lengths, but you can also tie it somewhere in between. This piece is striking enough to make a statement, but the colors are subtle and understated. Dress it up or down, it’s a fabulous accessory for jeans or a night out.
