This original bead embroidered necklace has a dark garden theme. It showcases several 1960’s vintage West German glass cabochons from my collection, including a large amethyst focal, three deep purple florals in electric purple ab and a smaller stone in sapphire ab. In addition to these special old stones, the piece features a variety of glass flower and leaf beads, as well as gorgeous and contemporary Japanese glass seed beads in rich matte metallic hues of purple and blue.
Several of the cabs and beads are coated with an aurora borealis finish, which gives them fabulous play of light effects. The deep purple floral cabochons, for example, will shift from dark violet to amber, depending on the angle and lighting.
Each bead is sewn by hand, and every stitch is reinforced several times. The pendant measures about 2.5″ long x 1.75″ wide, and it is backed with luxurious ultrasuede. The neckline closes with a lobster claw clasp, and it is adjustable from about 18″ – 20″ in length, and there is a counterweight (not shown) to ensure that it hangs properly at any length.
